On July 30, 2026, staff from the Ornamental Plant Germplasm Center (OPGC) participated in a community outreach event at the Ohio State Fair, hosted by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). The OPGC team welcomed hundreds of fairgoers to its interactive booth, where visitors of all ages enjoyed creating floral-themed bookmarks and colorful pipe cleaner flower rings while learning about the OPGC's mission to conserve ornamental plant genetic resources. Through hands-on activities and conversations with staff, visitors learned how conserving plant diversity supports future research, plant breeding, and the continued development of ornamental crops.
